Yes and no. What you have to remember about Gender Criticals is that they truly believe that being transgender can be solved with conversion therapy. They see being transgender as a short term mental illness that can be cured away.

So when they object to "Better a trans boy than a dead girl", what they're saying is they think the kid can be simply counselled into being happy about being a girl, and thus the problem is solved.

Of course, all of this is predicated on a flawed premise about the nature of being transgender, so of course, it simply doesn't work.
